Welcome to Tirau Groomers (https://tiraugroomers.co.nz/). By booking an appointment with us, you agree to comply with the following policies and terms of service. These guidelines ensure a safe, professional, and efficient environment for all clients and staff.
1. Cancellations & Rescheduling
We value your time as well as our schedule. To ensure we can accommodate all clients, we require appropriate notice for any schedule changes.
- Notice Required: We kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations or appointment rescheduling. This allows us sufficient time to offer the open appointment to clients on our waiting list.
- How to Cancel or Reschedule: You may cancel or reschedule by replying directly to your email appointment reminder, emailing us at info@tiraugroomers.co.nz, or sending a text message to 020 4155 3696.
- Appointment Reminders: Email reminders are provided strictly as a courtesy. Clients are responsible for keeping track of their scheduled appointments regardless of whether a reminder is received.
2. Late Arrivals & No-Show Policy
- Late Arrivals: We offer a 15-minute grace period. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, your appointment will need to be rescheduled to prevent delays for subsequent bookings.
- No-Show Policy: Failure to attend a scheduled appointment without prior notification (“No-Show”) will require full pre-payment before any future bookings can be made.
3. General Health & Safety Restrictions
To maintain a calm, controlled, and safe environment for all animals and staff, we cannot accept dogs for grooming under any of the following circumstances:
- Displays of severe aggressive or reactive behavior.
- Bitches currently in heat or pregnant.
- Dogs currently under medical sedation.
4. Flea & Tick Policy
Tirau Groomers strives to maintain a flea- and tick-free salon for the health and safety of every dog in our care.
- Pre-appointment: If your dog has an active flea or tick infestation, please reschedule your appointment until the issue has been fully treated and brought under control.
- In-Salon Treatment: If fleas or ticks are discovered on your dog during their appointment, we will immediately bathe your dog using a specialised flea treatment shampoo and perform necessary salon sanitation procedures.
- Associated Fees: An additional fee will apply to cover the cost of the flea treatment products, extended labor, and salon deep-cleaning required to protect other animals.
5. Senior Dogs & High-Risk Medical Conditions (16+ Years)
Grooming requires physical handling and exertion that can place severe physical stress on vulnerable animals. For dogs 16 years of age or older, or those with severe underlying health conditions, we strongly recommend Vet-Supervised Grooming.
In a veterinary clinic, trained medical staff, oxygen supplies, and emergency equipment are immediately available should a medical event occur.
6. Severely Matted Coats
Shaving a severely matted coat is a high-risk, delicate procedure rather than a standard haircut. When fur becomes heavily matted, it forms a tight pelt that pulls the skin up against the coat, increasing the risk of skin trauma and underlying issues.
- High-Risk Cases: For severe matting cases that pose extreme medical risk, we advise consulting a licensed veterinarian to have the coat safely removed under medical supervision.
- Matted Coat Release Form: Clients presenting dogs with severely matted coats must acknowledge the associated health and safety risks by signing our Matted Coat Release Form prior to service.
- Additional Fees: An additional fee will apply to all matted coat services to cover the increased technical difficulty, extra time reserved, and specialised equipment required to safely complete the process.
7. Behavioral Policy & Right to Terminate Service
To ensure the physical safety of our staff and the animals in our care, we cannot accommodate dogs exhibiting high-risk behaviors during grooming, including:
- Severe fear-aggression or persistent biting attempts.
- Extreme thrashing, violent twisting (“gator rolling”), or frantic behavior that risks self-injury.
- Severe medical distress triggered by anxiety.
Note on Fees: If a grooming session must be stopped mid-service due to safety concerns, full or partial fees will apply to cover the time reserved for your booking. For dogs requiring specialised behavioral restraint or medical support, we recommend seeking vet-supervised care.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Tirau Groomers a safe, professional, and reliable service for the Waikato community.
